Abstract
The diverse spectrum of extraskeletal effects of vitamin D opens the way to new therapeutic possibilities. Among the known mechanisms of vitamin D influence on the endocrine part of pancreas, the possibility of stimulating insulin secretion is described. The positive effect of vitamin D on fasting glycemia, postprandial glycemia, glycated hemoglobin, the degree of insulin resistance, and the level of liver enzymes has been described, on the other hand, in a number of studies there is no significant difference in these indicators between the experimental group using vitamin D and the control group without vitamin D supplementation.
