Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic endocrine and metabolic disease that occurs as a result of absolute or relative insulin deficiency under the influence of a combination of genetic and exogenous factors. Effective management of DM includes drug therapy, lifestyle modification, and psychological support. Particular attention is paid to the assessment of micronutrient status and its role in the development of diabetes and complications.

The article presents an analysis of current recommendations for the use of supplemental therapy drugs as an effective addition to standard DM therapy. The need to take into account the quality of dietary supplements and the evidence base for their use is emphasized.
